Engineering and Maintenance

  • The Technical Workshops are broken down into distinct workshops as follows:

        i)    Mechanical Workshops

        ii)    Electrical and Avionics Workshops

        iii)    Aircraft Structural Workshop

        iv)    Cabin Interior Workshops

     

    i) MECHANICAL WORKSHOPS

    a) Components maintained and repaired are:

    • Landing Gear components: as wheels and brakes 

    • Safety Equipment such as Life Vests, Escape slides and Life Rafts 

    • Hyrdaulic and Pneumatic Components such as actuators and valves 

    • System Components such as Lavatories 

    • Shaft balancing

    • Machine shop machining

     

    b) Plant and Equipment

    • Fabrication of ground support equipment such as trolleys

    • Maintenance, Repair and overhaul of ground support equipment such as tow bars and aircraft jacks

     

    ii) ELECTRICAL AND AVIONICS WORKSHOPS

    This consists of

    a) Workshops capable of repair and maintenance of:

    • Electrical System Components

    • Instruments System Components

    • Communication System Components

    • Navigation System Components

    • Pulse System Components

    • IFE System Components

     

    b) i) Tools calibration: Precision Tools e.g verniers, torque wrenches, pressure gauges, crimping tools, cable tensiometer and micrometers

       ii) Hydro static test (HST) of Gaseous Bottles such as portable oxygen cylinders and weight check of Fire extinguisher Bottles

     

    iii) AIRCRAFT STRUCTURAL WORKSHOP

    This consists of workshops for carrying out:-

    a)    Sheet metal repairs

    b)    Composite Repairs

    c)    Aircraft components welding for Aluminium, Magnesium Alloys, Steels, Nickel Alloys, Copper Alloys and Titanium Alloys

    d)    Aircraft rigid pipes repair and swaging

     

    iv) Cabin Interior workshops

    This consists of:

    a)    Upholestry workshop that produces aircraft fabric parts such as Seat covers and curtains

    b)    Seat workshops that repairs, maintains and overhauls aircraft seats

    c)     Carpet Trimming and cleaning

     

    v) Unit Loading (ULD) Workshops

    This consists of :

    a)    Repair of ULDs

    b)    Assembly of ULDs

    c)    Repair of Pallets

     

    d)Kenya Airways Technical Workshops are EASA (European Aviation Safety Audit) Certified with approval number EASA.145.0478 for the following category components:
